Omo Bello, the amazingly talented 29 year old who won the SPAN [Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria] Stargazing Contest and was presented in over 10 performances by SPAN in 2005 and 2006 before she left to study in France, has been doing so well.

At the Paris International Opera Competition early this year, Omo Bello won the first prize in the general category, the French opera of the 19th century prize and the public prize.

She has done so much for herself including singing in the role of Contessa Le Nozze di Figaro at the 2012 Verbier Festival, In 2012/2013, she took on the same role of Contessa Le Nozze di Figaro on tour with Opéra de Montpellier, debuted in the roles of Juliette Roméo et Juliette by Gounod on tour with Opéra de Tours, Jeanne La Vivandière by Benjamin Godard at the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier, amongst many more. This season, she will debut in the role of Donna Anna Don Giovanni by Mozart at the Opéra de Tours and Opéra de Reims, Violetta La Traviata by Verdi at the Opéra de Montpellier and Elvira L’Italiana in Algeri by Rossini at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées.
In addition to her already rich resume, this year and next, Omo Bello will make a European recital tour with the pianist Clément Mao-Takacs as part of the Rising Stars programme of the Cité de la Musique, Paris and the European Concert Halls Organisation (ECHO). She is also a goodwill ambassador of Rotary International.

Well-done Lady! We are so proud to have been a part of your career path

Lets Make The Children Smile to Bed This Children’s Day

Every year on May 27 in Nigeria, we say ‘Happy Children’s Day’, but how many children do we really make happy? At SPAN, we’re passionate about giving hope to the hopeless and putting smiles on faces.

Last year, we met a passionate young woman, Tolu Sangosanya, who we think is doing something exceptional. She runs LOTS Charity Foundation. LOTS charity foundation is a registered charity organization that caters to the physiological [feeding, clothing and shelter], social, educational, psychological, medical, and emotional needs of street kids and vulnerable children. Their area of focus right now is Ajeromi-ifelodun local government in a community called ‘DUSTBIN ESTATE’ in Ajegunle, Lagos state, Nigeria. As its name connotes, Dustbin estate is an area of refuse; a settlement in which its inhabitants build their house with planks on refuse dumps. So these children practically live on ‘trash’ with no proper beds…. We intend to change that. Please join SPAN and LOTS this children day as we put a smile on the faces of these little angels. We believe every Child deserves a place to sleep and we plan to do so on Children’s day, May 27, 2014.

Join us by donating N7,000 [Seven Thousand Naira] to DUSTBIN ESTATE CHILDREN from LOTS foundation [http://www.lotscharityfoundation.org/] to celebrate Children’s Day with us! Each child will get a sleeping kit [A bed, Pyjama E.T.C] contact us to be a part of this Info@spanigeria.org, 01-7767726

ALL THAT JAZZ: Photos from The International Jazz/Music Day at The MUSON

Just as we promised, some real JAZZ went down on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 as THE U.S Consulate General in Collaboration with The MUSON Centre celebrated ‘International Jazz/Dance Day’. Students from the our music academy [SPAN Academy of Jazz] and SPAN dancers performed. It was beautiful! you know how we do! Also, our ever passionate Chairperson, Sarah Boulos, gave a speech. We agree that nothing beats first hand experience, but pictures can give a pretty clear illustration. So here goes!
